How Do I Find Recent Travis County Arrest Records & Mugshots for Free?

While you now know you can access arrest records due to Texas’ Public Information Act, you need to determine how to go about this process and what options are available for free.1 When preparing for a search, gather as much information as you can.

Helpful information for locating an arrest record includes an offender’s name, address, date of incident and where the alleged crime occurred. If you have additional information on the person or charges, that may be helpful as well in certain situations.

With this information gathered, you are now ready to conduct your search. A great option for accessing arrest information is to conduct a search with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Search Tool. This online search tool allows you to access a person’s arrest record by conducting a name search.

When you run the search, all matching arrestees will be included in the results page with their full name and age. You can then select a particular arrestee from the results page to view their complete arrest record.

The online arrest record is broken down into two sections. The first section is the booking information. In this section, you can view their booking number when they were taken into custody, the arresting agency, the offense number and the facility they are incarcerated.

The next section lists all of the charges brought against a person. In this section, you can view a brief description of the charge that led to the person’s arrest, the type of offense, case number and charge authority.

You are now prepared to search for arrest and criminal record information through a variety of tools and resources. The next section shifts gears to discuss how to post bail for someone who has recently been arrested.

How To Post Bail for an Arrest Made in Travis County: A Summary

Just because a person is arrested for a crime, it does not mean they are guilty. Spending time in jail for a crime they may have not committed can be demoralizing. If you want to assist them in posting bail, you can do so. This will allow them to stay out of jail while their case is being adjudicated.

Depending on your financial situation and your relationship with the person, you have a couple of different options for assisting them with Travis County’s bail process.10

Bail Bondsman: If you are looking for the least risky (but potentially expensive) option, you might want to consider using a bail bondsman. A bail bondsman will take care of the entire process of posting the bond and securing the individual’s release from jail. To acquire these services, you will have to pay the bondsman a non-refundable fee of 10% of whatever the bail was set at.

Self-Bail Process: You can also handle the posting of a bond by yourself without the assistance of a bondsman. To do this you can post a cash bond by using your own funds. In Travis County, you can do this at the jail facility where they are currently in custody.

You can call 512-854-4180 to find out where they currently reside or use the resources provided earlier in this article.

A cash bond can be paid with actual money, a cashier’s check or a money order. If you do not have sufficient funds, you could consider a property bond.

In this situation, if your property has enough equity in it, you can pledge a non-liquid asset for the bond amount. If you use this type of bond, a lien will have to be placed against your property.

The advantage of the self-bail process is you can obtain all of your money or property back if the person complies with future court hearings. However, you also stand to lose everything if they do not show up for future hearings and cannot be found.

You are now prepared to access Travis County arrest records through various means; if the situation arises, you also know your options for posting bail.
